Clark Aldrich: Simulations and the Future of Learning (23.22MB; download) -- Clark Aldrich, co-founder of SimuLearn and the author of, Simulations and the Future of Learning delivered this presentation at Accelerating Change 2004:
Six criteria are emerging as critical not just to simulations but to all successful educational experiences. Three are focused on content, and three on delivery elements. The key criteria for content are: 1. Linear content. 2. Systems of content. 3. Cyclical content. Additional criteria for delivery elements are: 4. Simulation elements that model reality. 5. Game elements that provide familiar and entertaining interactions. 6. Pedagogical (didactic) elements that ensure the students' time is spent productively. As we understand pedagogy (#6) and linear content (#1), we first mourn that they have become so dominant, but then realize how powerful they are in concert. It is only through the interelationships of all six criteria that we begin to get results that can truly transform people. Future Tense Podcast for March 7, 2005 (3.85MB; download) -- Nicholas Negroponte says the solution to third world poverty is educating children. He aims to do that will a new computer that will cost about a hundred bucks.
Negroponte is founder of the Massachussetts Institute of Technology
Media Lab, and author of the groundbreaking book, "Being Digital."
He's come up with the design for a machine that third world countries
can buy in bulk to give to children.
The machine would be light, but rugged. And it will be able to connect wirelessly to the Internet. It will run on the open source operating system Linux.
The project has the backing of Google, computer chip company AMD and

A New Twist on Roasted Potatoes (0.92MB; download) -- By Linda Bramble
Hereâs a twist on roasted potatoes. All youâll need is Balsamic vinegar, olive oil, salt and potatoes. Long potatoes work best, but any shape will work. Cut them into wedges. Place in a bowl and cover lightly with olive oil. Roast in a medium oven until golden but not yet crispy. Remove and mix with a light covering of Balsamic vinegar. . Add salt to taste, return to the oven until theyâre crispy. Serve immediately. For added enjoyment, mix in wedges of sweet potatoes. The textures and the flavours are scrumptious. I served them with roasted chicken, but if youâre in a hurry, grab one already cooked at the supermarket. Stir-fry some vegetables like broccoli and mushrooms and youâve got a week-day meal fit for Saturday night.
ed. note: If you try this tasty tip, please let us know how it works for you, or share your recipe for roasted potatoes. Cheers
